TaxDome AI explained

TaxDome AI is a set of AI features built into TaxDome: it organizes the documents your clients upload, helps you prepare tax return deliveries, and connects your own AI tools to your TaxDome data.

TaxDome AI at a glance

TaxDome AI includes these features:

  • AI checklist generation —generates a client’s document checklist from their prior-year return, for Form 1040 in Drake, Lacerte, ProSeries and UltraTax
  • AI checklist matching —matches each document your client uploads to the right checklist section (for example, a W-2 form to the W-2 section), so you can track checklist progress in real time
  • AI document renaming —renames client uploads based on the document type (for example, IMG_30459.pdf becomes 2024 1099-C New Tech LLC.pdf)
  • AI document tagging —assigns tags to supported documents so you can find them using filters
  • AI in tax return delivery —groups the pages of the tax return, fills out the tax summary and places signature fields for you to review before sending
  • API and MCP —connect TaxDome to the other tools your firm uses: your AI assistant, like Claude or ChatGPT, through MCP, and your CRM, scheduler or notetaker through the API

AI for documents

When a client uploads a document through the client portal or mobile app, TaxDome AI can match it to the document checklist, rename it based on the document type and assign tags so you can filter it. It works with common US tax forms, passports and driver’s licenses, and you find the result in the client’s account. Read more in Use AI for documents .

AI in tax return delivery

When you create a tax return delivery, TaxDome AI can sort the tax return into sections—highlights, signature pages, and payment vouchers—prefill the tax summary with amounts, payment methods, and due dates, and place signature fields using your signature templates. You review the result before sending the delivery to your client. Read more in Use AI in tax return delivery .

API and MCP

With MCP, you can connect an AI assistant like Claude or ChatGPT to your TaxDome data and work with it right from the chat. With the public API, your other software can read and update TaxDome data. Both work within your firm’s existing TaxDome permissions. Read more in TaxDome API and MCP explained .

TaxDome AI security

TaxDome’s AI features rely on enterprise-grade services from OpenAI, AWS and Google, which are designed for sensitive business data. To protect your data, TaxDome:

  • Encrypts every transfer: all data transfers use industry-standard encryption

  • Sends only what’s needed: only the essential amount of data goes to the AI providers

  • Doesn’t train AI on personal data: TaxDome’s AI models don’t train on personal data, and personal data isn’t used to train commercial third-party AI models

  • Keeps zero retention with AI providers: data sent to third-party AI models isn’t stored on the providers’ servers beyond processing your request. Google may keep some processed data for up to 30 days in a secure environment, only to detect and prevent abusive content.

Access and permissions

TaxDome AI is turned off by default, and only the firm owner or admins can turn its features on. AI for documents and AI in tax return delivery are turned on in Settings > Firm settings, on the TaxDome AI tab. Once on, they work across every client account, and team members don’t need an additional access right to benefit from them.

API and MCP are turned on in their own settings , where the firm owner or admins also choose which team members can connect.
