Work Forecaster indicators explained

Instead of manually scanning your job list for what’s overdue, falling behind, or coming due, Work Forecaster surfaces it for you. It adds a row of indicators to the top of your Jobs page (Workflow > Jobs) that flag deadline risk early—predicting whether there’s enough time left to finish a job before its deadline, instead of waiting for it to go overdue.

Work Forecaster indicators at a glance

A color-coded bar above the indicators gives you an at-a-glance breakdown of how your jobs are distributed across all of them.

Here is what you can do with Work Forecaster indicators:

  • Take immediate action—Overdue shows jobs that have already missed their deadline and need urgent attention.
  • Plan your team’s work ahead of time—Upcoming shows jobs due within the selected period, helping you stay ahead of deadlines.
  • Prevent risks early—Past Stage Limit and At Risk highlight jobs that are falling behind or are predicted to miss their deadline.
  • Monitor overall progress—On Track and Completed show how many jobs currently require no urgent action and how many have already been completed.

How the forecast is calculated

Work Forecaster estimates when a job will actually be done, then checks that estimate against its deadline:

  1. TaxDome adds the time left on the job’s current stage to the time limits of the stages still ahead, skipping any it won’t actually pass through. It counts from today, or from the job’s intake date if that’s in the future—the point when the client’s documents are in and work can start. This gives an estimated finish date.

  2. TaxDome compares that estimate to the due date or internal deadline. If it leaves enough room, the job shows as On Track. If it doesn’t, the job shows as At Risk.

  3. Once the deadline has actually passed, the job shows as Overdue instead, regardless of the estimate.

Example

A job still has five stages left to go: Tax prep, Review 1, Review 2, Client signature, and E-filing. If each has a 5-day time limit, the remaining path takes 25 days. A deadline only 20 days away means the job shows as At Risk.

This isn’t a one-time calculation—TaxDome updates it automatically whenever something relevant changes, like the job moving to a new stage or status, or its due date, internal deadline, or intake date being edited. Recalculation can take a few minutes to show up after a change.

Filter jobs with indicators

Filter by an indicator to turn its count into a list of jobs you can act on—for example, to catch At Risk jobs before they become Overdue.

  1. Go to Workflow > Jobs.

  2. Click the dropdown at the top left of the indicators and select Due date or Internal deadline. This sets which deadline Overdue, Upcoming, At Risk, and On Track measure against.

  1. To change the period for Upcoming or Completed, click the period next to the indicator name, then select a preset or a custom range in the calendar.
  1. Click an indicator. The list shows only the matching jobs, and a Forecaster filter appears next to your other filters.
  1. To return to the full list, click × on the Forecaster filter.

Combine an indicator with your regular filters to narrow results further—for example, to see which of one team member’s jobs are At Risk.

Note

Completed periods count back from today—for example, Last month covers the past 30 days. Turn on Calendar ranges in the period dropdown to use calendar weeks (Monday to Sunday), months, quarters, or years instead.
