Actions with client payment methods

Note
The Payment methods tab is available only when TaxDome Payments or Stripe is connected and set as the default payment provider. Firm owners, firm admins, and firm members with the Manage payments access right can manage client payment methods.
Firms can add and delete payment methods to a client’s account from the Payment methods tab in each client’s profile. Each saved method displays the card type, expiration date, and a Recurring badge if it’s linked to an active recurring invoice. For paying invoices on a client’s behalf using saved methods, see the dedicated article .
Add a payment method
You can add a credit card or bank account to a client’s profile directly from the Payment methods tab, or while paying an invoice on the client’s behalf .
To add a payment method from the client’s profile:
-
Go to Clients > Accounts from the left menu bar and open the client’s account.
-
Go to the Billing > Payment methods tab.
-
Click New payment method.
-
Select the method type—Card or US bank account—then enter the details. For bank accounts, you can enter the details in two ways: search for the client’s bank or enter bank details manually.
-
Click Save.
Payment data is processed by Stripe—TaxDome does not store the client’s card number or bank account details.
Delete a payment method
To remove a payment method from a client’s account:
-
Go to Clients > Accounts from the left menu bar and open the client’s account.
-
Go to the Billing > Payment methods tab.
-
Click the three dots next to the method, then select Delete.
-
Confirm the action.
Tip
If you delete a method linked to active invoices, the dialog shows which recurring invoice it’s linked to—click Replace to swap the method for all linked invoices instead.
Replace payment method
When a payment method is linked to active recurring invoices or proposals, deleting it might cause failed payments. To ensure payments continue without interruption, replace it before deleting . Replacing updates all linked recurring invoices and signed proposals—the old payment method remains on file. The change is logged in the Activity feed .
To replace a payment method:
-
Go to Billing > Recurring invoices from the left menu bar.
-
Click the three dots next to the recurring invoice and select Replace payment method.
-
Select the new payment method and click Replace.
